Is your manicure saving you from infection?

In my last article, I spoke about certain measures need to taken into regard by women while visiting a nail salon. I spoke about how negligence can cause you bacterial infections, nail fungus and the like. Since your skin may also get cut in the process there are rare and I mean really rare incidence of your developing HIV/AIDS as well. Where the chances of you getting any of these are very rare, I would still advise you to take precautions at your level as well.
Here are some that might come in handy:
The best things like I said earlier is to use your own manicure kit but if that’s not possible here are some things you must look into when you visit a particular salon before getting started:
• You must see that all the instruments are cleaned and disinfected after every usage. If the same kit is being used for some other client, has the manicurist removed the clean, disinfected, instruments from the disinfectant in front of you? Also see if all the files, buffers, and anything else that touches you is freshly sterilized before you allow the manicurist to start with it .
• If you also intend to get the pedicure done, see if the pedicure tub is thoroughly cleaned or not. The steps where clients typically step should also be free from all kind of debris.
• You should wash your hands before your manicure is done and see whether the manicurists also wash their hands before and after each client.
• Always use a fresh and a clean towel.
• Ensure that there are plenty of clean, disinfected, nail brushes available for each client in the salon.
• Always consider using a cuticle softener, rather than cuticle scissors to reduce the risk of broken skin occurrence every now and then.
If you see that these sanitary precautions are not being followed at the salon, please do not hesitate in telling the owner about it. Under extreme situations if you do follow some kind of an infection, you can contact your state cosmetology board and complain about the same.
