What’s in an acne!

You ask this to a woman and she’ll tell you what’s in an acne and how dreadful can acquaintance with it be. Though there are many kinds of acne that affect our skin, the mild ones such as the blackhead and whiteheads do not pose much harm to our skin. It is only when it comes to formation of nodules and cysts that skin condition can worsen.

However, since women are often prone to this anomaly, it will be beneficial if you learn the exact nature of these acnes so that you can look for its cure accordingly. This is so because not every acne can be treated with the same medicine or in the same manner. Each has a different implication and hence a different cure.

In my last article I have already spoken about the common types such as pustule, comedones, papules, mascules etc. that affect us. In this one I’ll be talking about the extreme condition when the lesion enters the deeper layers of the skin, causing great damage and in some cases permanent scarring as well.

Now two such acnes are nodules and cysts. Let’s me throw some more light on them.

A nodule looks like a papule and is usually solid, dome-shaped or irregularly-shaped lesion. But unlike it, a nodule is characterized by heavy inflammation and extends into the deeper layers of the skin tissue. Hence it is likely to cause great destruction to the skin cells thereby resulting in prolonged scarring.

A cyst, on the other hand is a sac-like follicle containing a liquid or a semi-liquid material made up of white blood cells, dead skin cells and bacteria. Occurrence of cysts on one’s face can be extremely painful as it barges in to the inner layers of the dermis, making it highly inflamed. Such acnes take time to heal and if you observe their occurrence to be on a regular basis, please do not delay in consulting a dermatologist at the earliest.

Sometimes cysts and nodules often occur together in a severe form of lesion called nodulocystic follicle. Presence of these acnes on the skin may feel like bee stings but that’s the way it is because it has its roots into the innermost layer of the dermis. So please be extremely careful in dealing with them. Never burst those for it might lead to permanent scarring.

The best way is to never let these occur to you in the first place. Drink lots of water, keep yourself stress-free and always keep smiling – nothing can be a better medicine towards having a happy, smiling skin.
