GOING FOR BOTOX

Botox is the brand name which is a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In huge amounts, this toxin can cause botulism, which you probably relate with food poisoning. Despite the fact that one of the most severe complications of botulism is paralysis, scientists have invented a way to use it to human gain. Small, diluted amount can be straight away injected into specific muscles causing controlled waning of the muscles.

The FDA approved such practice in the late 1980s upon the discovery that Botox could end ailments such as blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking) and strabismus (lazy eye). Cosmetic physicians have been making use of Botox for some years to successfully treat wrinkles as well as facial creases. In April 2002, Botox got FDA consent for treatment of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows - called glabellar lines. However, Botox is often used for other regions of the face as well.

Working of botox
Botox stops signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscles would not be able to contract, which as a result causes the wrinkles to relax and soften.

It is most of the times used on forehead lines, crow’s feet i.e. lines around the eye and frown lines. Wrinkles formed by sun damage and gravity will not be able to respond to Botox.

Procedure?
The procedure takes not many minutes and no anesthesia is needed. Botox is injected by the means of a fine needle into specific muscles with only a little discomfort. It usually takes three to seven days to take proper effect and it is best to stay away from alcohol at least one week prior to treatment. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should be clogged two weeks before treatment as well in order to condense bruising.

How Long Does the Injection Last?
The effects of Botox will last four to six months. As muscle action steadily returns, the lines and wrinkles start to re-appear and wrinkles require being re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often emerge less severe with time because the muscles are being skilled to relax.

Side Effects of Botox.
Temporary bruising is the most ordinary side effect. Headaches, which resolve in 24-48 hours, can crop up, but it is rare. A petite percentage of patients may build up eyelid drooping. This generally resolves in three weeks. This development is caused by migration of the Botox and for this ground, you shouldn’t even try to rub the treated area for 12 hours after injection or lay down for three to four hours.

Who Should Not Receive Botox
Patients coming in the following category:

-such as pregnant, breastfeeding or have a neurological disease should not use Botox that period. Since Botox doesn’t work for every wrinkle, a consultation with a doctor is suggested.
