How to avoid and treat sunburns


Summers are back and scorching heat and sunburns are back too. If you want to get rid or stay protected against sunburns, we have some really good advice for you.

  1. If you have already experienced sunburns and the burn is heating, you can put cold but not ice water on the affected area or try applying cold compresses for a period of 5-10 minutes. This will not only reduce the associated swelling but will also offer instant relief.
  2. In case of sunburns, it is suggested that you DO NOT make use of first aid sprays containing benzocaine or cooling lotions containing menthol or camphor; DO NOT try applying creams or lotions on the affected areas unless otherwise recommended by a medical practitioner. You can take pain relievers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) after medical advice.
  3. It is recommended that you consume 8-10 glasses of water a day so that your body does not get dehydrated.
  4. It is highly recommended that you do not go out in the heat without a good sunscreen cream (with good SPF - sun protection factor) and make use of sunglasses (offering a minimum of 95 percent UV protection), hat, and/or umbrella.
